Can I Work At Home As A Medical Transcriptionist Without Experience Working At A Medical Facility?

Can I work at home as a Medical Transcriptionist without experience working at a medical facility? I’m reading that you -need- to have a year or two of experience working at a hospitol or drs office before you can hope to work from home. I always thought of this as a career that could let me stay home with the kids, aside from the education and certification process of course. Anyone? Thanks very much.

I am in New York state, near cities of Ithaca, Corning, Geneva, Elmira and Seneca Falls. I would like to use my computer to answer medical calls, set up appointments, advise patients if they need to go to hospital or call ambulance or call 911.
