Is Radio Advertising Typically The Best?

I am trying to budget future expenses for advertising in the business I want to start. I think that radio advertising would be the most effective- does anyone have any thoughts/ tips/ suggestions?
My target market is parents of 4- 8 year olds and their children. What time do you think would be the best to air an advertisment on the radio?
Also, does anyone else have any suggestions on something that might be more effective than radio?
Thanks!

Hi there! Morning and Afternoon Drive Times are the best places for advertising….BUT DON’T SPEND MONEY ON RADIO!
Radio is the BEST place to get the word out, but advertising is a waste of money. Why? because as soon as people hear commercials they switch the station. I’m a radio DJ…I know!
Unless you have a ton of money to spend on a long-term campaign your message will be lost.
The best thing to do is get booked on radio shows as a guest. This is great for several reasons:
    1) It’s FREE
    2) You can do it anywhere
    3) People ACTUALLY listen to a guest whereas they tune out commercials
    4) You can plug your website, products, services, etc. (Again no charge)
    5) You have a target demographic that LOVES radio and uses it daily.
Parents are one of the largest demographics, especially in the morning when they travel to work and shuttle their children to school, and in the afternoon when they return home. If you can tailor a great radio segment specifically for parents then you can get FREE and EFFECTIVE publicity anywhere in the world.
I book authors, business owners, local experts, teachers, psychics every single day and they all make a ton from the free promotional plugs they get during the segment.
You can get more info about using free radio advertising from the source box. By the way what is your business idea?

Radio effective can be effective only if your message helps your audience “visualize” the value of your business or service. Based on the kind of service you’re offering, the best time would be early morning as most people in cars or homes are likely to be tuned in. But you’d need to consider the costs involved as well. Do a general survey or market research of the area you’re targeting to get a feel of what their needs are and craft your message accordingly.
I would also combine radio advertising with online video advertising as it helps reinforce the ideas you send out through radio in a more visual way. Combine the two media (radio + online video) for full effect. It’s easy to make short video clips of your business and put them online.

I run a small business, well I guess it’s small, just me and my boyfriend but ten thousand clients. It’s home inspection company.
We started the company by marketing personally. Going into business that would use our service and giving them marketing packages which included our fee schedule, business cards and postcards we had made. I would say face to face marketing is best if you have that option.
Postcards. We paid for a mailing list (with specific criteria) from a company called infousa that we found online. Then we mailed out postcards with as much info as possible. They were designed by a graphic designer.
My friend is trying to start up a company and what she is doing is putting her business cards/fliers on bulletin boards everywhere she goes. She has had a small response but has had some business come from that.
As for radio, I’ve never done it. Went as far as having the dj write the ad and then just decided not to. Hard to say the best time to address parents of 4-8 year olds (on the radio) as some work, some don’t, some have kids home early, some not. I also know I’ve heard ads on the radio many times and have thought “I should call” but never do because I’m driving and whatnot.
Or you can try cold calling potential clients but if you’re like me then you’ll need a beer (or two) to do that because it can be harsh.
    Make a website…
    Good luck!

Where I live there is a free magazine called the Action Unlimited that is sent out to every house once a month. If you have something like that around you, that would be your best choice. There is another sfree magazine called the Clipper Magazine that is sent out to everyone, and every advertisement in it has coupons attached. That is pretty popular also. Good luck!
