Is A Bachelors In Advertising From An Art School Recommended?

Im thinking of transferring to the Art institute of Philadelphia for my bachelor’s in Advertising. Currently I am in Strayer for my marketing degree. I wish to deal more so with the illustration and copy writing of advertising. My overall goal is to become experienced in advertising/PR in order to start my own small firm. I wish to recruit talent and connect them to their opportunities. I also want to start a small magazine company and build a website in this area. Am I on the right track?

The AI of Philly would be a far better choice for your career than Strayer is. Absolutely. But that said, there are stronger art schools in Philly that might do even more for you. I thus also want you to look at University of the Arts, Moore College of Art, Temple U, and Drexel.
The AI doesn’t have the greatest rep as an art school, which is why I suggested the others. But the AI is still a far better choice for your career path than is Strayer, absolutely. And it’s not that AI sucks or anything – it’s just that the others are stronger. AI would work, if you can’t get into the others.
While you study at the AI, do an internship in the field you plan to enter when you graduate. Also, try to gain as much PR/advertising related experience as you can while you study, on campus and off. Do work for campus clubs, do free publicity for local nightspots, etc. Try to build as much of a resume as you can while you’re still in school.
